People who struggle with anxiety can often ask themselves the question: ‘Why?’
They get bogged down in examining WHY they might be feeling anxious…

…But unfortunately, that ‘why’ question can lead them ever deeper into a maze of anxious thoughts:
‘Why? It’s because of that bad experience I had all those years ago’
‘It’s because my parents did xyz’
‘It’s because my work colleagues hate me’
Etc.
And guess what these thoughts do? Make us conjure up bad memories or negative thoughts.
Yes, it’s useful to explore the origins of the anxiety during counselling.
But to keep on going over it can end up retriggering and reinforcing uncomfortable feelings.
In order to move past this it’s essential that we move on to a more solution-focused way of thinking.
And this requires a different type of question.
A question that starts with the word ‘How?’
‘How can I feel happier?’
‘How can my life get better?’
‘How can I make positive changes?’
Then our minds can get to work devising answers to those questions.
You’d be surprised how resourceful the mind can be, when you ask it the right questions.
Anxiety Counselling
When I help people with anxiety, I use a proactive ‘coaching’ style approach which blends Counselling, Hypnotherapy, and CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy). My method is designed to help you ‘train’ your mind to think in a more calm rational way, and give you tools and techniques to feel more confident and relaxed about life.
In between sessions I give you some simple but effective activities to do to reinforce the process.
