What happens in the sessions?
At the initial session we will discuss what you wish to achieve from our work together, and the kind of approach you would feel most comfortable with. I want you to feel at ease and in control at all times.
As we continue through the therapy process the sessions usually include a mixture of talking about what’s on your mind, working out where the problems might originate, and learning practical techniques and strategies to help you feel better.
Sessions last for 50 minutes each, and I will often include some online resources for you to practice in your own time, to reinforce the work we do. It’s also possible to book a double session if you feel you need extra support or wish to discuss things in more depth.
I have a friendly informal style, and will do my best to make you feel completely at ease. I’m trained in many types of therapy so we can tailor the sessions to suit your individual requirements. I’m fully insured and registered with BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy). I’m also a Senior Advanced Practitioner Accredited with GHR (General Hypnotherapy Register).
I realise that first step can be very daunting, but I encourage you to get in touch. Don’t suffer in silence – reach out and get the support you need – it might just change your life. For my part, I promise to do my utmost to help make the whole process as smooth as possible.

My Story
My early professional career was in the music industry. I worked as a professional singer in various bands and shows.
During my musical career I performed in a variety of venues and travelled to many places around the world. I got to visit some amazing places, such as Hawaii, Jamaica, India, and Mexico. I also wrote and recorded my own original songs. It was a great life, and a lot of fun.
By the time I reached my 30s I was ready to settle down and change direction. I had a growing interest in health, both of the mind and body, so I returned home from my travels and enrolled in college as a mature student.
I studied science, initially with a view to becoming a nutritionist, as I was very interested in the role healthy eating plays in our general health.
After a while I became more aware that food is only a small part of the equation when it comes to health and well being, so I decided on a change of direction.
I chose to take a more general approach; studying Health Science and Health Studies at The University of Chester. I learned about the biology of disease, environmental health, health promotion, welfare history, microbiology, and the sociology, politics, and economics of health.
While studying all aspects of health at University, I also started becoming increasingly interested in more alternative approaches, such as Yoga, Reiki, Hypnotherapy, Meditation and Mindfulness. I trained as a Yoga teacher and began teaching Yoga classes around North Wales, which was where I was living at the time. I also began training in Reiki, eventually becoming attuned through to Master level.
I found as I deepened my knowledge and practice of various mind and body holistic techniques, I experienced a deep healing of my own emotional and physical challenges.
Soon after this I moved to Glasgow, Scotland, and decided that the time was right for me to begin post-graduate training as a Counsellor. I studied at The University of Strathclyde, gained my certificate and diploma, and began working as a counsellor.
I also trained in Hypnotherapy, NLP (neuro-linguistic programming), EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique, or ‘Tapping’), CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Technique), and various other healing therapies, and I continue to keep up to date with the latest trainings. I draw on all my rich background of therapeutic knowledge and experience so that I can offer the best possible help and support to my clients.
Now in my 50s, I run my own private online practice as a therapist / coach, from my base in beautiful North Wales. In my spare time I love growing organic veggies, wild swimming, and watching vintage movies.
Here are some of the issues I can help with:
ANXIETY
Anxiety can be experienced in many different ways. Some people are anxious about a specific situation: for instance feeling nervous in work meetings or social situations. Others may have a general sense of foreboding that seems to come from nowhere.
Anxiety might have a strong physical effect, such as a churning in the stomach or heart palpitations, or it might be experienced more ‘in the head’ as racing thoughts, overthinking, and a constant worrying that the worst is going to happen.
Anxiety, fears, phobias and panic attacks can often cause you to avoid certain situations, and they can really hold you back from a lot of the good things in life. They can affect your sleeping and eating patterns, which makes everything even more difficult to cope with.
However you’re experiencing your anxiety, we can work through it safely and effectively during therapy, and get you to a calm, confident, happy place.
ANGER
Anger can be a very destructive emotion if left unchecked. I work with many people whose relationships are on the verge of breakdown because of their anger issues. Others may be experiencing health difficulties due to all the stress that’s building up. There’s often so much at stake when it comes to anger, so it’s crucial to seek support and make the necessary changes before it’s too late.
When that ‘red mist’ appears it can feel explosive and seem to come from nowhere. Soon afterwards it’s often followed by feelings of guilt and shame at losing control, often around the people who mean the most to you.
Or it may appear as a low-level constant feeling of irritation and negativity, which can have equally harming results over the long-term.
During my anger management therapy you can learn how to safely control your emotions, and feel more calm, confident and positive. All within private, confidential, non-judgemental sessions.
RELATIONSHIPS
Relationships can bring all kinds of difficulties. Guilt, shame, heartbreak, jealousy, insecurity, anger, anxiety, sadness – there are a whole range of feelings that can come up when we’re in relationship with another person.
Your relationship issues may be with your partner, parent, child, friend, boss, or colleague. Whatever problems you’re experiencing, we can discuss them safely and confidentially, enabling you to gain a different perspective and find clarity.
DEPRESSION, LOW MOOD, NEGATIVE THOUGHTS
The world can be a difficult, confusing, uncertain place – and never more so than right now. If you’re feeling low or depressed, it can really help to share your feelings within the safety of therapy.
Whether you just want to talk to somebody who’ll walk beside you on your journey, or whether you want to learn practical techniques to feel happier and more positive, then I’m here for you.
LACK OF CONFIDENCE, LOW SELF ESTEEM
Are you lacking confidence in certain areas of your life? Feeling ‘not good enough? These feelings can really hold you back in your career and in relationships.
Lack of confidence can include things such as: public speaking nerves, shyness or discomfort around strangers, poor self image, or it can simply be a constant inner critical voice in your mind that never really lets you truly be happy.
I use a mixture of counselling, CBT, NLP, and other therapies to help you build your confidence and raise your self esteem, so you can succeed in all areas of your life.
LOSS AND BEREAVEMENT
Losing people that you love can have an overwhelming effect on your mental health and well-being. It can bring up an array of different emotions – not just sadness, but even feelings such as anger or guilt.
Often we try to hide away how we feel, and tell ourselves we can just ‘get on with it’. But it’s so important to allow yourself the space you need to process your emotions fully, otherwise they can build up inside and lead to problems later on. Whatever you’re going through, get in touch to speak privately about it.
TRAUMA, PTSD
Whether you’ve experienced traumatic events recently or many years ago, the effects can be devastating on your mental and even your physical health. And these effects can surface at later points in your life, so the original cause might not be immediately obvious.
I use a blend of therapies to help you explore the root of your trauma, process your emotions, and release the pain gently and safely.
WEIGHT ISSUES
Weight gain, emotional eating, unhealthy diet, binge eating – these can all be resolved with my unique weight management program. Also included is additional online support in the form of MP3s and worksheets to complement our therapy sessions.
